Training programme completed

Monday 29th February, 2016

A training programme designed to introduce people to the Climate Just tool, help them learn how to use it and then apply it in practice has been completed by Climate UK, with the support of JRF and the Environment Agency's Climate Ready service.

127 people in different parts of England attended a webinar, introductory or intermediate training session, or some combination of sessions. The programme ran between November 2015 and January 2016 and included four webinars and seven events in London's City Hall, Plymouth Council House, Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Nottingham, University of Birmingham, Leeds Beckett University and Kings College London.

Participants were mainly from local authorities (staff in public health, environment, emergency planning, spatial planning and social care), along with housing associations, universities, voluntary organisations, fire and service and Public Health England.

The training was well received and many of the participants said they would go on to take some kind of action as a result. Comments included the following:

  • The resources can inform our plans on sustainable drainage and green infrastructure
  • The resources offer very useful evidence to make the case for action
  • Those are great tools, especially the visual ones; she will talk to planning and policy colleagues and share the website’s case studies with them.
  • The resources help identifying areas of focus and can provide additional evidence to colleagues working with community groups
