BACLIAT

Developed by: UKCIP & the Environment Agency

The Business Areas Climate Assessment Tool (BACLIAT) was primarily developed for businesses but the BACLIAT method can be easily applied in other organisations and is already used within local authorities. Freely available, BACLIAT supports users through a process of assessing the impact of past weather events as a means of self-assessing resilience for events which may happen in the future. It uses a set of general business areas for this purpose. Based on this self-assessment, BACLIAT allows users to find out how to respond through changing operations and practices. Building the institutional resilience of organisations providing health and wellbeing services is important to ensure that these services can be maintained during extreme weather events, especially for the most socially vulnerable.

As a process-based assessment, it connects to the Adaptation Wizard. The tool itself consists of a set of workshops along with a spreadsheet.
